Toshiba Carbon Zero Scheme

POSITIVE PRINTING

It is clear that human activities are affecting the global climate, so it is vital that we find ways to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. This is where carbon offsetting can help. Carbon offsetting is a way to reduce the amount of CO2 released into the atmosphere by balancing or cancelling out the amount of these gases through participation in environmental projects.
At Toshiba we are committed to the environment and with the help of the carbon offsetting experts at CO2balance we have devised a scheme with which we can offset the carbon footprint of your Toshiba system.

We not only include the CO2 that is being emitted during the production and transportation of our products, but throughout the entire product life-cycle. Therefore, depending on the scheme in place, we factor in a set number of printed pages to also cover any ongoing environmental impact. Through this process the emissions are balanced to become "Carbon Zero", which allows for positive printing and copying with no detrimental effect on the environment.

SUPPORTING THE UNITED NATIONS

all UN SDGs4

Our Carbon Zero programme supports 14 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set by the UN to drive forward positive change over the next fourteen years. This set of 17 measurable Sustainable Development Goals range from ending world poverty to achieving gender equality and empowering women and girls by 2030. They build on the work of the Millennium Development Goals and are an intergovernmental set of aspirational Goals with 169 targets. To learn more about the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals please visit the UN's website.

THE PROJECTS

Available schemes under Toshiba's Carbon Zero programme may vary from country to country and depend on the Toshiba system you purchased. But what all schemes have in common is the support of Gold Standard projects around the world to compensate for the greenhouse gas emissions.

The projects do more than just compensate for the carbon emission - they create jobs for local people and involve them in the data collection and the education of their peers. Below you will find more information on the projects we are currently supporting. Please access the latest Impact Report here.

Kenyan Stove Project

Energy Efficient Stove Project - Kenya

Supplying energy saving cook stoves to villages in Kenya, which result in a reduction of 50% of firewood. The stoves therefore yield a saving in timber use, carbon emissions, smoke, time and cost, improving the lives of the host communities.

Borehole Rehabilitation Project - Uganda

By renovating and repairing boreholes in remote villages across Uganda this project helps to restore a safe clean source of drinking water for families. Not having to boil the water to make it safe to use, reduces the amount of firewood consumed and creates a carbon reduction.
